| Solar Services has now signed contracts for solar water heating systems for the new White House School in Hailsham, East Sussex.
White House School in Hailsham has moved into a brand new purpose-built school. The school moved from its previous site in North Street, Hailsham, to a new building behind the leisure centre. Building work on the new school began in March 2007 and was completed in April 2008. The whole scheme was being funded by Tesco as part of an agreement reached with East Sussex County Council in 2003. Tesco is building a new store on the site which included the previous White House School and agreed to fund the building works. Planning permission for the school has been in place since 2004. Tesco’s own planning application was approved towards the end of 2006.
The school needs hot water for all pupils and staff. This particular system is run on mains pressure and utilises 2 x 500 litre stainless steel cylinders. The high temperatures achieved by the solar leaves a much smaller amount of power required via conventional fossil fuel based heating. Importantly, this is without the associated pollution of burning fossil fuels, reducing the overall ‘carbon footprint’ of the building and lowering the fuel bills.
There are many applications for solar water heating and the company is happy to talk through any ideas for current or future projects.
